Animal Welfare Policy

We believe that all living creatures deserve fair treatment. We take care of animals when they are part of our production and do our best to treat them with respect and dignity, ensuring they are protected from unnecessary harm.

Through dialogue and cooperation with our suppliers we aim to continuously improve animal welfare. Our definition of animal welfare and dignity is based on the five freedoms developed by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) . The five freedoms describe society’s expectations for the conditions animals should experience when under human control, namely:

  • Freedom from hunger, malnutrition and thirst
  • Freedom from fear and distress
  • Freedom from heat stress or physical discomfort
  • Freedom from pain, injury and disease
  • Freedom to express standard patterns of behaviour

We only source our materials from farms that meet these principles. Furthermore, we demand our suppliers uphold certain official standards for specific materials:

Down and Feather

The amount of down and feather in our products is minimal; however, when we use the material, it needs to be certified by the Responsible Down Standard (RDS). This safeguards the welfare of geese and ducks that provide down and feathers for our products. Down and feathers that carry the RDS certificate ensure that a professional, third-party certification body audits each stage in the supply chain.

Only using down and feather certified by the Responsible Down Standard, ensure that there will be no removal of down and feathers from live birds (live-plucking or moult-harvesting). Force-feeding and down and feather from foie gras production is also banned. When using down and feather, it can only be a by-products of the food industry; otherwise, we will not accept it.

Leather and Animal Skins

We aim to only work with suppliers that are members of the Leather Working Group. This to ensure we together promote a healthy, sustainable and business based on transparent environmental practices. Furthermore, when we use leather and animal skins for our products, it is only accepted when it is a by-product of the food industry.

Fur

We do not accept the use of animal fur in our products.

Exotic Skin and Endangered Species

We do not accept the use of skins from exotic animals and endangered species.

Wool

We strive to only use wool certified by Responsible Wool Standard ensuring high standards of animal welfare or wool that documents practices in accordance to the Five Freedoms and where the land they grass is managed and protected according to best practices.

Mulesing

We do under no circumstances accept mulesing or any other maltreatment of merino sheep.

Mohair

We do not use any mohair in our collections unless the suppliers can offer full transparency´and document the animals are treated fairly.

Angora

We will, under no circumstances, accept the use of angora due to its often cruel and painful procedures.
